Modelling climate change impact on grapevine diseases

A two year position, starting  April, 1st 2012.

Context and aims:

Despite a considerable literature addressing climate change impact on viticulture, few studies have considered how grapevine pests might be affected by climatic change. The European project VINTAGE (FP7 Program for SME association/Groups), which aims at providing a user friendly Decision Support System for an integrated vineyard management, proposes to gather numerous operational grapevine pest models in order to assess the impact on climate on grapevine disease. The Climate Research Center of the University of Burgundy aims at using those models to evaluate the consequences of past and projected climate change on grapevine phytosanitary status.

 

 

Job description:

The position is a two year term post-doctoral appointment in plant disease / climate modelling. The post doc fellow will develop in R code numerous operational grapevine phytosanitary models from literature and assess their responses to past, recent and projected climate data. Key responsibilities:

– Developing in R statistical programming language numerous grapevine disease models from literature (e.g. bunch rot, grape moth, mildew).

– Assessing models performances by comparing simulated data to plant disease observation datasets.

– Exploring future phytosanitary levels for viticulture projected observed and projected data sets for the 21st century.

 

 

Expected candidate background:

Qualified candidates must have a recent doctoral degree (PhD) with a demonstrated record of innovative scientific accomplishments as evidenced by first-author papers published or accepted in major journals. Applicants must have some solid background in plant / fungus disease modelling and some strong skills in programming. Communication skills also are expected.
