Landscape-scale characterization of soil organic matter using molecular approach: Dijon, France

Supervised by Olivier Mathieu and Mathieu Thevenot / official documents to be sent to olivier.mathieu@u-bourgogne.fr

The Biogéosciences Laboratory at the université de Bourgogne Franche-Comté (Dijon, France) seeks applicants for a 12 months postdoctoral research fellowship, beginning around 1st october 2017, to work on the characterization and dynamics of soil organic matter using molecular approach.

The challenge for agriculture in the coming years is to design sustainable and resilient systems that reconcile their production function and ecosystem services, on short-term (interannual scale) and on medium term (from one to several decades), in a changing environment. Soil organic matter (SOM) is a key element of agroecosystems resilience and sustainability: it affects both soil production and soil environmental functions. Landscape is the relevant scale (i) to consider the interactions between the anthropogenic and natural factors controlling the dynamics of SOM, (ii) to consider organic matter and nutrient fluxes involved in SOM dynamics and (iii) to address SOM impact on both production and environmental functions of soils in a combined way.

The post-doctorate position will mainly focus on soil organic matter characterization using high resolution molecular tools.

The ideal candidate will have a PhD in environmental science and will be experienced in geochemistry.

Please email your application to olivier.mathieu@u-bourgogne.fr
